Procedures

Dr. Buenaventura offers four FDA cleared neurotoxins for injection to treat facial lines...Jeuveau (Evolus), Botox (Allergan), Dysport (Galderma) and  Xeomin (Merz).  We collectively refer to them as "neuromodulators", meaning they weaken facial muscles which results in fewer wrinkles. At our office this is a safe and effective procedure and is performed by Dr. Buenaventura or Physician Assistant Anne Littman.  Commonly treated areas include frown lines, forehead lines and smile lines.  It takes about five days to see the improvement and results last 4-6 months.  These are amazing treatments that can slow down the signs of aging and give the brow a softer, relaxed appearance.  This is one of our favorite non-surgical treatments.

How do we decide which medication to use?  We are happy to guide you though it is your choice.  All brands have loyalty and rewards programs for you, the patient.  We can make a recommendation for and always give you pricing ahead of time, so you know exactly what to expect.

Reasons for Considering a Neurotoxin Treatment

  • Lines across the forehead.
  • Wrinkles or “crow’s feet” around your eyes.
  • A vertical “frown line” between your eyebrows, or "eleven" lines

General Procedure

A cream with local anesthetic will be placed on your skin prior to treatment.  Dr. Buenaventura or Anne Littman, PA-C will discuss the areas you want to treat, and the amount of medication needed.  Injections are very precise.  This is performed with a very small needle and are placed in specific muscles of the face, depending on what needs improvement.  The effects of a neurotoxin treatment will last approximately four to six months.  Most patients have treatment 2-3 times per year.  How often you are treated is up to you, but we recommend every 4-6 months. A well-done treatment looks natural, not artificial, and you will still have facial expression.  Consistent treatment is beneficial, and very safe in our properly trained hands.

Recovery Process

We follow the American Society of Plastic Surgeon Task force guidelines for post procedure care.  This includes some facial exercises for about an hour.   Patients should not engage in heavy physical exercise for the first 24 hours. It can take 5-7 days for the toxin to fully bind so do not massage the area during this time.  It is beautiful and one of our most popular treatments for patients and for ourselves.
