4 Important Questions to Ask When Considering Liposuction

Nov 6 • 1 minute read

Liposuction is a common cosmetic surgical procedure that helps get rid of those stubborn fat deposits that don’t go away even with exercise and dieting. Liposuction is a tool to help you redefine and reshape the parts of your body that are not responding to your hard work.

If you are considering liposuction here are four important questions to ask:

How Do I Know If I Am A Candidate for Liposuction?

First, it is important to keep your expectations realistic. Liposuction can remove fat between the muscle and skin to help contour the body.  It is not a weight loss procedure but will change your shape.  It is important to be at a healthy BMI to undergo elective surgery safely.   Almost everyone has trouble spots that will benefit from liposuction.  Common areas are inner and outer thighs, abdomen and love handles, arms and the neck.

What Happens During My Consultation?

Before a liposuction procedure, You will meet with the Doctor Buenaventura to discuss your expectations, goals, and examine the areas you want to change.  Together you will decide on a surgical plan and review your medical history and you will receive information on cost and scheduling.

What Happens Before My Procedure?

Your liposuction procedure will start at the doctor’s office or surgical center. Before the surgery beings, marks and outlines are placed on the areas intended for liposuction. We will also take pictures to compare before and after results. Once you are ready anesthesia will be administered, and your surgery will begin. The surgery can be done at our surgical center or the hospital and is considered an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll be able to go home the same day.

What Can I Expect After My Surgery Is Complete?

After your surgery you will experience some swelling and bruising.  This is a normal part of your bodies healing process, and you should not be alarmed.  Dr. Buenaventura recommends a compression garment for about 3 weeks.  Exercise is usually okay at 3 weeks out.
